Our
involvement in residencies and workshops evolved out of our interest in
constructing elaborate stage sets for special one or two-off performances |

The set of the Government Warning Show (1976) consisted of hundreds of cardboard boxes all labelled low, middle or high Art Content. The set of the Library Ssshow (1983) consisted of 10 tons of scrap books stacked into wobbly columns. By drilling a hole through each book a wire could be passed through and fastened to the ceiling |

| Many of our first residencies involved building huge environments with the participants. Elements of performance would then be worked into this environment. Arts Centres like the Tower Centre in Winchester or The Hornpipe in Portsmouth allowed us to spill out into the corridors, the foyer or even the outside of the building creating a passageway of exhibits as well as fantastical decor through which the audience passed on their way to "Ghosts" "Myth" or "Hypochondria". | |||||||||
